Used to
”Used to”, geçmişte yaptığımız fakat şimdi yapmadığımız, yapmayı bıraktığımız alışkanlıklardan bahsederken kullanılır. Kullanması oldukça kolaydır.
Geçmişte bir eylemin yapılmış veya gerçekleşmiş olması, o eylemin "used to" yapısı ile kullanılması gerektiği anlamına gelmez. Gelmişte tek seferlik gerçekleşmiş eylemler Past Tense yapısı ile kullanılır. "Used to" ile kurduğumuz cümlelerdeki eylemlerin ise bir tür alışkanlık olması gerekir. Eylemleri, belirli aralıklar ile, uzun süre boyunca devam ettirmiş olmamız gerekir.
He slept in the cold room that night.
He used to sleep in a cold room.
Olumlu cümle yapısı:
I/You/We/They/He/She/It + used to + Verb
Olumsuz cümle yapısı:
I/You/We/They/He/She/It + didn’t use to + Verb
Soru cümle yapısı:
Did + I/You/We/They/He/She/It + use to + Verb
EXAMPLE
Did you use to smoke?
You used to talk a lot but now, you don’t.
She didn’t use to care but after she lost her father, she started to care.
He used to be a pretty good mechanic.
We used to be so close.
He said he used to work with you.
He used to study everyday but now, he does not do that.
They used to play tennis together.
He used to play football when he was younger.
I used to walk to school.
We used to live in a small town.
He used to read a lot.
Alex used to work here but he moved to New Orleans.
Ömer used to hate him, now, he hates him even more.
Jane used to love swimming in the swimming fool but now, she likes the sea more.
Be Used to
Alışkın olmak anlamına gelir. “Be”, cümlenin tense’ine göre uygun şekilde çekilerek cümlenin içerisine gelir.
Olumlu cümle yapısı:
I/You/We/They/He/She/It + çekimli “be” + used to + Verb
Olumsuz cümle yapısı:
I/You/We/They/He/She/It + çekimli “be” + used to + Verb
Soru cümle yapısı:
Did + I/You/We/They/He/She/It + çekimli “be” + used to + Verb
EXAMPLE
I am used to the smoking smell.
He was used to sleeping in the couch.
She is used to being shouted at.
He is used to the noise.
We are used to this work.
I am used to this office.
They are used to working hard.
We aren’t used to standing.
He was probably used to it.
I am used to walking.
He is used to sleeping in a noisy room.
I always wondered if that was why Mom and Dad split up for a while - because Mom was used to a different lifestyle and social circle.
Get Used to
Alışmak anlamına gelir. Diğer tense’lerin yardımcı fiilleri ile o tense’lere uygun şekilde kullanılabilirler.
EXAMPLE
I got used to sleeping in a noisy room.
She got used to being shouted at.
They got used to working really hard because of their universities.
You will get used to the train’s speed.
I got used to working here.
She will get used to her desk.
I didn’t get used to my desk.
You don’t get used to this.
We won’t get used to working this hard.
It took them a long time to get used to their new boss.
Have you got used to driving on the left yet?
She is getting used to waking up early for her new job.
He doesn’t like that small town, but he’ll get used to it.
She found the heels too high, but she got used to them.
Since the divorce, she has become very sad. But I think she’ll get used to her new life.
I got used to living in Canada in spite of the cold weather.
